The story of Domaine du Père Benoit

1938 Desrue Family

In 1938, Philibert DESRUE bought 1.3 ha of Brouilly and 0.65 ha of Côte-de-Brouilly.

He left his profession as a café owner in Cercié to grow vines and be a wine broker in the Beaujolais vineyards.

His son Antoine married in 1934 and in 1935 he had a daughter Claudette. Antoine followed in his father's footsteps until 1985.

1933 Benoit Family

Joseph BENOIT and his wife Yvonne, originally from the Dombes region, moved to Les Vadoux, a hamlet in St Jean d'Ardières, in 1933. Roger was born to them on 19 August 1932. Once there, they looked after meadows, 4 or 5 cows and a few plots of vines in the Beaujolais appellation.

During their years of activity, the meadows were replanted with 7 ha of vines. The production is brought to the Wine-growers' cooperative.

The production is brought to the Cave coopérative.

Roger BENOIT married Claudette DESRUE in November and
was mobilised for the Algerian war the following year.

In 1957, two years later, they had their first son Christian.

The couple bought a house and a plot of Brouilly at a hamlet called Bergiron in Saint-Lager.

In the same year, they had:
- Jean-Luc,
- Evelyn in 1961, Catherine in 1964,
- Laurence, the youngest in 1970.

Roger and Claudette bring together on the same
farm Joseph BENOIT's Beaujolais and the vinegnard in Brouilly and Côte-de-Brouilly of Antoine DESRUE. Roger still vinifies the Brouilly and Côte-de-Brouilly in the Cuvage Desrue in Cercié, and the Beaujolais
is taken to the wine-growers' cooperative.

In 1965, he marketed his first bottles.
1981

1981

Construction of a barrel fermentation on the land adjoining his home, from now on, he vinifies all his grapes in this new building.

The same year, he purchased a plot of Beaujolais and one of Brouilly.
1982

MUTIN / BENOIT family

Creation of the GAEC of Domaine du Père BENOIT with two of his children Evelyne and Jean Luc. After Evelyne's departure in 1991 from the farm, Laurence and her husband Pascal MUTIN came to the estate. In 1999 Jean-Luc left.
1992

1992

Pascal MUTIN married Laurence BENOIT and during the same year Roger BENOIT retired. Laurence and Pascal take control of the estate under the watchful eye of Roger and Jean-Luc.

Purchase of a 0.60 ha plot of Morgon and in 2008 a 1.50 ha plot of Beaujolais which will be replanted with Chardonnay to produce Beaujolais Blanc, la Feuillette Dorée and Crémant-de-Bourgogne.

Their son Nicolas arrives on the estate to help his father with the viticultural and wine-growing work, he represents the 5th generation.

Laurence and Pascal build a shop to welcome their customers, passing customers and tourists.
